Using autofocus lock

In autofocus mode, pressing and holding the shutter button halfway locks focus. If you want to maintain an exact focusing distance for several shots, though, the press-and-hold method isn’t too reliable. First, it’s easy to inadvertently alter the framing of the image slightly, which can change the autofocusing distance. And when the camera is operating in the continuous-servo autofocus mode, focus is continually adjusted while you hold the shutter button halfway, so the focusing distance can change if the subject moves out of the active autofocus area.

One solution is to simply set focus manually, being careful not to adjust the focusing ring between pictures. Or, if you aren’t comfortable with manual focusing, you can use a feature called autofocus lock.
